A little bit about us…

Miss Sue

I live in South Eastern Minnesota…(Yes, winters are too cold here! But summers are really nice!) My interest in becoming an Early Childhood Educator started during my senior year of high school. I volunteered at a wonderful preschool that had general ed and special ed students together in the same class. I absolutely loved spending time there! The kids were so sweet and I learned so much from the staff.

My student teaching experience was in a Kindergarten classroom at a rural school. Immediately after college, I became a substitute teacher, then I moved on to working in various child care centers. After a few years of childcare, I was ready for a new challenge. That lead me to my current position: I’m a preschool teacher for my local school district! I’ve been in this position for the last 10 years, but I’ve been teaching for around 17 years.

My program is unique and so valuable. It’s a family literacy program! The parents and children attend the same school! How awesome is that?! This gives us the amazing opportunity to teach and mentor parents about the value and importance of parent involvement in their children’s education! Seeing the parents daily for more than a few minutes is also helpful in that we get to communicate and build stronger relationships than if I only saw them twice a year for conferences. Usually the children in my class are ages 2-4 years old. We have a high number of English Language Learners at our school, so many of my kiddos are bilingual. It is humbling to work with a diverse population of parents and kids! I love learning new things about their cultures and get to learn a few words in their home languages as well! I love my school!

Now I’d like to take a moment and introduce you to a contributor and the co-founder of this blog! Welcome Mr. Zeiad! He brings a wealth of knowledge and wisdom on a variety of topics, and serves as editor and marketer for Miss Sue’s Skills 4 Success.
